have one, or on their social networking profiles. Having a spot on your website that asks people to
link to you and provides them with the HTML code to just copy and paste can also land you a few
links from time to time.
A lot of people claim that link exchanges, or reciprocal links are no good, and that search engines
devalue both of the links. While they may not be worth as much as a one way link, they are
certainly helpful, and can be much easier to get than 1 way links. Send an email to other websites
in your genre and ask if they are interested in trading links with you. Another good method, is to go
to Yahoo and type in: link:COMPETITORSURL.COM, replacing COMPETITORSURL.COM with the actual
URL to a competitors website. This will show you a listing of websites that link to that competitors
site. Go to each of them and look for a contact form and contact these webmasters and ask for a
link exchange. If they link to your competitor, then they must have some interest in your niche.
These are sites containing indexes of links split into categories. While there are paid directories, I
don't feel it's worth it, and always stick to the free directories. They usually have you enter a title
and description for the site. Make sure you use keywords in both, but especially the title, as this is
what will be used as the anchor text for the link to your site. Make sure you vary the titles and
descriptions to give it a more natural look.
