I was doubtful. I had always thought it was some sort of
tranquilizer for unruly kids. Dr. Sims told me it was
actually a stimulant that helped many people with ADD
to focus. After talking with Dr. Sims, I agreed to try it. I
also scheduled a visit with a counselor to learn coping
techniques. Accepting my learning disability and finding
ways of coping was the last step in my process of self-
discovery.
Now, dealing with school is much easier. Last term, for
the first time, I made the dean’s list. It is as if I have
discovered my abilities, not my disability. I know that I
am not lazy and unmotivated, but a smart and
determined person. Now, though, I’m able to show it.
