Correcting Run-ons

2 Correct run-ons and comma splices using

                                      five methods.

Five methods of correcting run-ons are presented in the following

sections. The first three methods are simple; the remaining two are

more complex. Learning all five methods will give you more than just

ways to correct run-ons; it will give you a variety of sentence patterns

and transitional words to use in your writing.

               Method 1: Period and Capital

               Letter

Correcting a run-on with a period and capital letter is the easiest

method to use. The hard part is knowing when and how often to use it.

Short, single-clause sentences can emphasize ideas by setting them

apart. Too many short sentences can make your writing seem choppy
               and disconnected.
