Semicolon and a Transitional Expression

In each sentence, underline the spot where the run-on occurs. Write

RO in the blank to the left of the sentence if it is a run-on (fused

sentence), CS if it is a comma splice. Then correct the sentence using
a semicolon and an appropriate transitional expression.

1. Tia thought she could get by without studying, her

grades suffered.

2. The lake was beautiful and clear, cans, bottles, and

fast-food wrappers littered the beach alongside it.
