Project execution is where the work of the project is performed, and
that work is performed by people. Successful project execution involves developing the

project team, managing the work according to the project plan, and managing conflict.

You’ll have relationships with a number of individuals and groups during the life of the
project. All of your people management skills will come into play as you negotiate with
the sponsor, team members, vendors, functional managers, clients, users, and other
     internal organizations.

If you talk to veteran project managers about what makes their projects successful,
most will list the project team. Understanding how to build this temporary group into a
team, making sure appropriate training is provided, managing conflict, and

implementing a meaningful rewards and recognition plan are all challenges you’ll face
     in developing a cohesive team.

Along the way, you’ll discover some bumps in the road that will require specific actions
to get the project back on course. This may also require updating project plan
     documents.

This chapter starts by determining resource needs. Let’s dive in.

     Determining Resource Needs

All projects require resources to complete the tasks and deliver a successful project.
The CompTIA exam breaks the concept of resources into several categories: resource
management concepts, personnel management, and conflict management. First, you’ll
start with resource management concepts and explore the idea of shared vs. dedicated

resources, resource overallocation, and interproject dependencies. You’ll look at
personnel management and conflict management later in this chapter.

     Resource Management Concepts

Let’s focus on some of the characteristics of resources and some of the management
concepts you might encounter on the exam.
