Service Operation Cloud computing often makes one part of a request
fulfillment process quicker—for instance, it eliminates a long wait for
hardware to be installed—but other parts of the process remain manual and
take a long time, such as security entitlements.

Service Transition In the old days, any IT service change was the end
result of a fairly long, manual process. Examples include acquiring new
end-user software or new server hardware. As a result, the configuration
management database (CMDB) could be reasonably up to date since these
things took time. CMDB is a repository of IT services and the underlying
components and processes used to deliver them. It connects configuration

items to the value they provide to customers. With cloud computing, entities
such as servers, workstations, and application installations can come and go
much more quickly, so keeping the CMDB up to date is important.
Attributes of some CMDB configuration items (CIs) might change. For
example, it makes little sense to know the building location of a virtual
server. The service catalog is a list of operational services available for use
by users. Because of rapid elasticity, the CMDB may need tighter
