Condolences
Our deepest sympathies to Past President and Board member, Dr. Howard Weiner, on the
passing of his wife of 48 years, Esther.
We also mourn the passing of our dear friend and long-time colleague, Dr. Vito A. Cardo,
Jr. Born and raised in the Bronx, Dr. Cardo attended Manhattan College and graduated as
valedictorian from Georgetown University School of Dentistry. A well-known forensic
odontologist, Vito served as Chair of Dental Medicine & Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery at St.
Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center of Brooklyn and Queens. At Brookdale Hospital, he led the
ADA-accredited residency program in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery starting in 2009 and, in 2013,
assumed the position of Chair of the Department. He recently celebrated his 50th year as an Oral
Surgeon. Dr. Cardo is survived by his wife, Alice, seven children and 24 grand children.
In addition, we mourn the passing of our member Dr. Marvin Price. A Board Certified
Periodontist since 1991, Dr. Price was an ADA member for 36 years and a member of NCDS for
21 years. He earned is DDS from New York University in 1980 and completed the postgraduate
specialty program in Periodontics at New York University College of Dentistry in 1983. He was
also the Founder and Director of the Sunrise Seminars Dental Study Club. His son, Dr. Ryan
Price, also a Periodontist, took over his father’s dental practice in Massapequa Park, NY and
transferred to NCDS. We express our condolences to our member, Dr. Ryan Price.
Our condolences to our member, Dr. Elaine Garver, on the loss of her father, Dr. Barnet
Baron. Dr. Baron had a pediatric dental and orthodontic practice in Vernon, CT for 42 years. He
was a member of the ADA for 52 years, and was most recently a member of the Tolland County
Dental Society.
Our sincere sympathy to our member, Dr. Rachel Thomas, on the loss of her husband, Dr.
Shibu Thomas. Her husband was a medical doctor. He earned his medical degree from New
York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1994, was a chief resident in Internal Medicine at
Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn, and was an attending physician there for 22 years.
We also express our deepest sympathies to NCDS Past President, Dr. James Dolin and his
family on the passing of his mother, Francis Dolin of Ponte Vedra, Florida. She was a
talented artist and loving mother and grandmother.
