Message from the President
We live in unusual if not unprecedented times. We are slowly moving to a new
normal and the door has likely closed on our old normal. However, challenges
and problems present opportunities for new paths and bridges to a brighter
future. If caveman were never hungry, or cold, or needed protection, there
would have never been the need to build a fire. So, one can either choose to sit
in one’s cave and hope for warmer weather, where no predators appear and an
Uber shows up with a Dino burger, or one can be proactive and find a way to a
better situation. Try something new and different.
I am asking our members to not sit back, please don’t complain about the state
of our society, step up to the plate. Become involved, step up with other like-minded professionals and help
the dental society and our profession reach new heights. Let’s reach for the stars together!
Roughly fifty society members take care of 98% of dental society's business. It is difficult, if not impossible,
for this involved 2% to have a pulse on what members are feeling. Please give us feedback, help us better
provide what you want from your society. NCDS has several committees that deal not only with the
workings of our organization but with the actual running of our practices and the rules and regulations that
govern dentistry. I encourage you to reach out and find out about these groups AND join them. Information
can be located on our newly revamped society website, or you can talk to our Executive Director, Dr. Gene
Porcelli, or our Executive Assistant, Beverly, who will be happy to help. Please reach out and join us so that
we can become a more representative and responsive group. You will likely find the people you meet are
dedicated and caring individuals who you may form lasting friendships with.
It is so helpful for leadership to know how members feel about issues and what is important to them so we
can lead the society in a direction that benefits us all. Please reach out directly to the society or
myself. Lastly, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Let's keep our guard up for a while longer
and stay safe so that we can return to the type of social interactions that we all need and enjoy.
Wishing everyone a safe and wonderful Fall,
Howard Baylarian
2021 Nassau County Dental Society President
