Message from the Executive Director:
“We can’t control the wind, but we can adjust
our sails.”
Last issue I started my message with “Hope springs eternal” mainly because we
seemed to be turning the corner on COVID and life seemed to be slowly returning
to some normalcy. However, as I write this, the Delta variant of COVID is
sweeping through our nation, mainly due to the unvaccinated portion of the
population. The reintroduction of mask mandates is being discussed as is
vaccination mandates and attendance at events and restaurants being limited to
the vaccinated.
Someone once said: “Life is like a roller coaster. Sometimes you close your eyes and hold on in shear terror
and other times you just have to raise your hands up in the air and enjoy the ride!” I choose the latter. No
matter how frustrating the circumstances are we’ll just plan for the future and enjoy each day as it comes.
And planning we are! NYSDA held it’s first in-person House of Delegates since 2019 in Jersey City in mid-
August. It was a great success with much work getting accomplished and the enjoyment of being with our
colleagues from around the state once again. We elected a new ADA Trustee to represent New York.
Brendan Dowd’s four-year term will begin at the close of the ADA House of Delegates in October, which will
also be in-person in Las Vegas. In addition, Dr. Kevin Henner of Suffolk was installed as NYSDA President,
and Dr. Paul Leary, also of Suffolk, announced his candidacy for ADA President-Elect in 2022.
Closer to home, our NCDS Board of Directors’ meetings will be in-person beginning in September and our
General membership Meetings in October and November will be back at the Jericho Terrace in Mineola.
Make sure you go to our website (www.nassaudental.org) to register. However, out of an abundance of
caution as well as allowing our members to properly plan their schedules, we’ve decided to keep all our CE
courses virtual at least through the end of the year. The courses will most likely stay virtual through the
winter of 2022 as well. But that’s because we are planning a reconfiguration of our office space to expand
the conference room. This will allow for larger attendance at our CE courses once they are all live again.
We had hoped to begin construction this year, however due to the lack of availability of materials and
personnel, construction won’t be able to start until January 2022. Looking towards January, our
Installation Gala will be held at the Crest Hollow Country Club on January 22, 2022. It will be a great
evening of food, fun and friends. Save the date and look for registration information in the coming months.
We do have a great member benefit planned for September 18, 2021. Our first ever Recycling event!
Members will be able to bring their old charts, x-rays, and electronics to be disposed of free of charge!
Jeff Laskey of Garfield Refining will also be on hand to purchase your scrap dental metals. Look for more
