Nutrient Primary functions
Minerals Helps build bones and teeth, aid in muscles
function and nervous system activity
Vitamins Facilitate use of other nutrients; involved in
regulating growth and manufacturing hormones
Water Dissolves and carries nutrition or nutrients,
removes waste, and regulates body temperature
Fat Provides long term energy
Carbohydrates Provides energy

Water: water is needed by the body because it helps regulate temperature. Your body uses water in all
its tissues, organs, cells and maintains other body functions.
Vitamins: vitamins are nutrients or organic compounds that are needed in small quantities to sustain life
