uang Phra Prathon
Muang Phra Prathon is an ancient city where the city walls and moats surrounded the Phra Prathon Pagoda, the city’s center. The city was
built on the edges of the plains at the base of Maeklong delta, on the old coastal areas in the Funan-Dvaravati Period,
whose canal cities were at Don Yai Hom, a port and path to the sea. The city had been abandoned for a long time before King Rama IV
started the restoration of the Phra Prathom Pagoda. The King also had the Jedi Bucha canal dredged from
the Tha Chin River at Nakhon Chaisi to the city in order to use it as a transport route to pay homage to Phra Pathom Pagoda.
The evidence from satellite images revealed that the Jedi Bucha canal was dug along the ancient canal line from the Tha Chin River to
the city moats. The canal was later dug along the original city moats until it got to Phra Prathom Pagoda.
