Phimai City is located in the alluvial deposits of the
Mun River, Nakhon Ratchasima province, where the Phimai Stone
Castle is situated. It is one of Thailand’s legendary tourist spots.
The City was built during B.E. 1600 -1700 and expanded
in the B.E. 1800s. It was traced there were settlers here before any
recorded history. Evidence shows dispersions of Dvaravati Period
moats in the area. There were also irrigations formerly connected
to one another before the City was built.
Based on satellite imaging, the main part of the Phimai Stone
Castle faces the volcano called Phu Angkarn with a deviation of
ĪGISTDA_2014 4.5 degrees west of this volcano. Thus, it does not face
Muang Phranakhon as was primarily assumed.
