ภูเขาไฟภูอังคาร ๒๕๓ กิโลเมตร ผ่านปราสาทพนมรุ้งสร้างบน

the road to Pranakhon City

The Phanom Rung Stone Castle is a historical building on the south rim of the Phanom Rung extinct volcanic mouth. It is 383 meters high

located in Amphoe Chaloem Phra Kiat in Buri Ram Province. This sandstone castle was built in the 10 century CE. and represents the Hindu belief.
Later in the 13 century CE., the divine symbol of ‘Phanom Rung Castle’ was modified into a Buddhist religious site. The Fine Arts Department of

Thailand has preserved it as the National Historical Park since 1936.
In 1960, Visanu Linthal, which had been fixed on the Phanom Rung Stone Castle for more than 1,000 years was stolen, but was later found
displayed at the Chicago Institute of Arts, USA. The Thai Department of Fine Arts made an official request to have it returned to Thailand.
The campaign was successful, and Thailand had this invaluable piece of art returned to its original place on December 7, 1988.
The Phanom Rung Stone Castle contains clusters of castles continuously lined up in a straight line. Every year, when the sun rises, on April 3-5
and September 8-10 annually, the sunlight shines through the 15 castle doors. Likewise, on every March 6-8 and October 6-7, when the sun sets,
its rays amazingly shine through these same 15 doors. From the satellite images, the Castle doors were laid out in a straight line to the Phu Angkhan
crater. This is similar to lines of doors at Phimai Stone Castle, which line up and point to Phu Angkhan.
