2.1.2 Modals of  Possibility



                                   When talking about the present, modal
                                   verbs of probability express a guess or

                                   suggestion.



                                                            Some examples of common present modal




                                                              1.  Can’t + infinite

                                                              2.  Can

                                                              3.  Could
             You can construct past modal
                                                              4.  May
             verbs by adding “have” and a
                                                              5.  Might
             past participle to the modal
                                                              6.  Must
             verb.
                                                              7.  Will

                                                              8.  Won’t

                                                              9.  Should


                For example:


                1.  You could’ve been pun-
                     ished.

                2.  She couldn’t have missed

                     the bus

                3.  He might have been  late

                     to school













                        Always keep in mind that present
                        modal verbs of possibility are often
                        constructed with “be” following
