                      The Road to Independence – American War for Independence

                                           (1775 to 1783)



























                       The year of our declared independence was 1776.  This decision
                   by the Second Continental Congress was not the original intent of

                   their convening, and was not a proposition taken lightly – they were
                   still seeking to petition the crown to redress the oppression and

                   taxation without representation; continually denied by the crown.
                   To support the concept of independence was treasonous and

                   punishable by death.  The closing sentence of our Declaration of

                   Independence is, “And for the support of this declaration, with a firm
                   reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge
                   to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.”   Each of

                   the fifty-seven signers (from August 2  1776 to January 17  1777)
                   of this document faced death if captured and returned to England
                   (under the aforementioned Administration of Justice Act).  This

                   sentence should not be taken lightly, our Founding Fathers were
