Stage 5: The Degeneration Phase
During the degeneration phase, the toxic,
unhealthy environment of the extracellular matrix
has begun to affect the cells. To help you
understand what is happening here, let's use an
analogy. Imagine you have a garden. For many
years now, the garden has been very beautiful and
healthy with only a few minor problems here and
there. This garden has always fed you and kept you
alive.
Now imagine that something toxic has slowly
been leaking into the soil (Deposition phase). It
will first change the make up of the soil
(Impregnation phase). Because plants draw their
nourishment for the soil, this change in the soil will
eventually reach the plants damaging their cells and
giving rise to disease within the plant's tissues
(Degeneration phase).
Also imagine that weeds have begun to take
over the garden, choking out the healthy plants you
want there (Impregnation phase). The weeds
prevent nutrients and sunlight from reaching you
plants. The garden becomes more and more
