               Vroom’s expectancy theory

               Vroom believed that people will only be motivated to do tasks if they are confident
               that the tasks will help them to reach their goals.

               Vroom’s theory can be stated as a formula:

               Force           =  Valence x expectancy

               where

               force = the strength of a person’s motivation

               valence = the strength of an individual’s preference for an outcome

               expectancy = the probability of success
