CHAPTER 10 – INFORMATION AND KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT
10.1 QPP is a football club. It has recently undertaken a significant amount of
research on the actions of spectators who attend matches at its stadium. This
data has been stored in a large data warehouse.
Analysis of the data has suggested that the average spectator is 35 years old,
male and spends approximately $25 on merchandise and food during each
match.
What type of data mining result most closely matches the information
discovered by QPP?
A Association
B Classification
C Sequence
D Forecast
10.2 GGG is a music streaming site. Its users pay a monthly fee and this allows them
access to around two million music tracks.
One of GGG’s main selling points is that it creates personalised playlists of
tracks that each customer will enjoy. To create this, GGG has designed a
sophisticated algorithm which monitors which tracks customers listen to, as well
as asking customers to rate tracks as they listen to them. Finally, GGG’s system
periodically asks customers to fill in questionnaires about the types of music
they like to listen to – this is because GGG has found that each customer’s
preferences change on a regular basis.
GGG holds so much information on its customers it is finding it difficult to find
adequate storage space.
Which of the following options identifies the feature of Big Data that GGG
is struggling to manage?
A Veracity
B Velocity
C Variety
D Volume
147
