before they departed Vance told her to keep her dreams alive she would
definitely get there. The reason Vance thought her statement was so profound
was because she knew that one day soon some young dancers would come
in and she would be yesterday news. So, the fact that she was preparing for
this was profound in its own right. Once Vance got home that night he put on
Wes Montgomery album, A Day in the Life. It was the best-selling jazz album
of 1967. Vance fixed himself a stiff brandy and turned the sound up loud and
sat down in thought, thinking about A Day in the Life; listing to the cut and
reviewing days in his life, Vance felt he was watching a full feature movie with
