plans for the club; he had studied the setups of other clubs around the city.
Vance thought about one of the most profound statements he ever heard; it
was from a sister that called herself Hot Chocolate, a dancer at Magic City, a
famous strip club in Atlanta. She told Vance that dancing was like playing the
sport of football and she was like a star football running back. Because the
average time in either profession was a good four to five years to make all the
money you could. You don’t have a lifetime to be a dancer or a star football
running back. Vance thought that the statement was profound because this
sister who was in a look down profession by many others truly understood her
position. Vance told her that what she had just said to him was one of the
most profound statements he had ever heard from anyone, in any club. Hot
Chocolate and Vance both laughed, then she asked him if he wanted to hear
something else profound. Vance told her, yes! Then she said, “When my four
or five years are up I will become a female Jazz singer”. Vance said, really!
He told her he had managed a Jazz group in Europe for about a year, she
became intrigued and her whole persona changed; she sat down in the chair
next to Vance and told him to order some drinks, that way she said
management would not bother her if they saw them drinking. Vance ordered
some drinks and they had a back and forth conversation which lasted almost
two hours.
She told Vance how she started dancing and how the business was
competitive and downright nasty. Overall, she told Vance that the business
was dangerous and how girls were getting robbed all the time after they left
the club. Vance told her that he was planning to open up his own Jazz Club
soon and he would give her a debut shot at his club, what are you going to
name it she ask, Vance just smiled and said The Jazzsipper. He told her to
