up with a very smart plan; they decided to start a vending management and
event promotions business. Vance knew about 95% of the 75 plus current
vendors and if he could put together an attractive marketing package for them.
Together they all would share in the proceeds and set it up as a co-op, they
would put the pressure on the city to give his company the vending
management contract. Vance talked to Regina’s father extensively about his
idea at Regina’s request. Her father had been retired for a while, but even
though his physical mobility was limited he still had a very sharp mind when it
came to business. After taking notes and asking Vance numerous questions
pertaining to the business of vending, Regina’s father told Vance to give him
a couple of days to work on a business and marketing strategy.
Vance and Regina flew back to Atlanta almost in silence. Vance was in
thought about his earlier interaction with Regina’s father and how well their
meeting went. Vance could see clearly where Regina had gotten her ability to
ask thought provoking questions. Vance just smiled to himself; thinking about
the question Regina’s father asked when Vance told him he needed to make
a million dollars off the deal. Regina’s father asked for what? Vance replied
he needed to be able to take care of his family. And, so you need a million
dollars to do that? Yes, Vance said. Well let’s see! Said Regina’s father and
he then picked up a note pad and pen. He asked Vance do you need a home
for your family. Yes, Vance said, how much do you need to buy a nice house?
Two hundred thousand Vance said. Okay Regina father said, do you need a
car for you and your wife? Vance said absolutely, how much? We both need
cars Vance said. Okay, how much for your cars? Vance said twenty-five
thousand each. Okay, Regina’s father said, so far you are at two hundred and
