FrequentlyAskedQuestions
11. If I have a question about the 4473 gun form do I call NICS/State Agency or ATF?
ATF. Questions about the gun form should be directed to an ATF agent or First Cash’s Firearm’s Compliance
Officer. Questions about background checks should be directed to NICS or state agency.
12. I have already transferred the firearm to my customer and the next day I am reviewing the 4473 gun form
and notice an error, what should I do?
No changes should be made to an original ATF Form 4473 after the transfer of the firearm(s) takes place. If
you find errors or omissions after the customer has left the shop, make a copy of the form and make changes
or corrections on the copy. If the error was made by the customer, then contact the customer to come into
the shop to make the correction on the copy. Attach the corrected copy to the original form 4473 and file
as usual. (Instructions on pg. 3 of 4473 Gun Form; Notices, Instructions and Definitions)
14. My customer wants for me to enter his/her information for the gun because they can’t read, can I do that?
No. If the buyer is unable to read and/or write, the answers (other than the signature) may be written by
another person, excluding the seller. Two persons (other than the seller) must then sign as witnesses to the
buyer’s answers and signature. The customer must sign or make their mark on box 16.
(Instructions: Section A, Question 1)
15. The customer is saying that he is going to give the firearm as a gift to his friend (or relative), can I sell it to
him?
Yes & No. The gift for a friend (or relative) is OK as long as there is no reason to believe the friend would be
prohibited (as in a straw purchase) from possessing a firearm. If you get a “negative” feel to the transaction
then do not proceed.
16. What does a customer that is redeeming a firearm answer to question “11.a” because it is asking if the
customer is the actual buyer?
The customer answers “Yes” if he/she is redeeming the firearm from pawn. (Instructions: Question 11.a)
