SUMMARY OF THE THESIS
STUDY OF ANTHRAX FOCI IN KHENTII AIMAG
Anthrax is a zoonosis showing the signs such as septicemia, boil, swelling and
hemorrhagic inflammation. B. anthracis, the causative agent of anthrax belongs to
genus Bacillus of family Bacillaceae within the domain Eubacterialis. B. anthracis is
non-motile, rod-shaped, Gram-positive, endospore-forming aerobic bacterium with a
length of 5-6 µm and a width of 1.0-1.5 µm. Because the causative agent of the
disease is used as a very dangerous biological warfare weapon, more detailed
studies are now being performed at international level.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
In last years occurrences of anthrax infections are not decreasing and new natural
foci have been detected and reported. A total of 1294 cases of animal anthrax were
reported in 94 soums of 9 aimags, while 143 human cases of anthrax in 56 soums of
16 aimags between 2009 and 2014. Enormous expenditures for putting quarantine
during the disease outbreaks, vaccination of livestock populations, related curative
and preventive treatments, sterilization and disinfection in association with the
increase of incidence of the disease from year to year, are causing huge losses in
the country’s economy. Therefore, the research on anthrax foci is essentially
important for producing database and topographical map of the disease foci and
prevention and control of the anthrax.
AIM OF THE STUDY
More detailed investigation of anthrax foci in Khentii aimag, characterization of the
causative agent and evaluation of the foci are major aim this study and the following
objectives were propounded.
Objectives of the study
1.To collect and analyze the data of anthrax infections occurred in Khentii aimag and
produce focal mapping;
