Aditi: Did you have any jobs previously before
becoming an author?
Roald Dahl: That’s a wonderful question. Before
becoming an author, at the age of 17, I worked
for the Shell Oil Company. Then, later on, when
World War 2 broke out, I joined the Royal Air
Force, but unfortunately, I suffered some serious
injuries in my skull, spine, and hip. After under-
going surgery, I was transferred to Washington
D.C where I became an assistant air attaché.
Then only, later on, I started writing books and
became an author.
