In general, the use of good judgment, based on high ethical principles, will guide you with respect to lines
of acceptable conduct. If a situation arises where it is difficult to determine the proper course of action,
the matter should be discussed openly with your immediate supervisor or the Director Human
Resources for advice and consultation.
Compliance with this policy of business ethics and conduct is the responsibility of every MTR employee.
Disregarding or failing to comply with this standard of business ethics and conduct could lead to
disciplinary action, up to and including possible termination of employment.
Outside Employment
MTR employees may hold outside jobs with companies that do not compete with any MTR lines of
business.
All employees will be held to the same standards of performance and scheduling expectations,
regardless of any outside job. If we determine that outside work is impacting your performance or the
ability to meet our requirements, which may change over time, you will be asked to terminate the
outside job in order to stay employed at MTR.
Personal Appearance
Dress, grooming, and personal cleanliness standards contribute to the morale of all employees and affect
the business image MTR presents to customers and visitors.
During business hours or when representing MTR, you are expected to present a clean, neat, professional,
and tasteful appearance. You should dress and groom yourself according to the requirements of your
position and accepted social standards. This is particularly true if your job involves dealing with customers
or visitors in person.
Your supervisor or department head is responsible for establishing a reasonable dress code appropriate
to the job you perform. Consult your supervisor if you have questions as to what constitutes appropriate
appearance. Where necessary, reasonable accommodation may be made to a person with a disability.
Without unduly restricting individual tastes, the following personal appearance guidelines should be
considered, including, but not limited to:
• Shoes must provide safe, secure footing, and offer protection against hazards. No flip flops;
• Short may not be worn under any circumstances;
• Yoga pants may not be worn under any circumstances;
• No hoodies;
• No ball caps (including MTR logo caps);
• No inappropriate t-shirt slogans;
• Revealing clothing of any kind is inappropriate for the work place and must not be worn, i.e., backless
shirts or shirts showing midriff;
• Perfume, cologne, and aftershave lotion should be avoided altogether or used moderately as some
individuals may be sensitive to strong fragrances.
