                           MINKYOUNG KIM

Minkyoung Kim focuses on the harmonious relationship of elements and objects that have an
influence on people. She uses the Chinese character 人間 (Human) in her work, in which she
expresses the invisible relationships between people through her art, employing coloring and Hanji
(traditional Korean paper) collage techniques. From The Same Earth, which began in 2014, to her
current work series, she depicts the relationships and coexistence of the various elements in her
art with flows of energy and movement through time, expressing how one object seeks to meet
others. As all relationships are time-mediated, Kim’s work is connected to the continuity in human
relationships. Her work is also created over time by adding layers, drawing thousands of strands of
cilia with fine strokes, or tearing apart Hanji one-by-one to create thousands of cells, representing
                           individuals.
