IT’S THE LAW
New California Law Bans Texting for All Drivers
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law a bill prohibiting adults in California from text mess
aging while driving.
The new bill “Prohibits a person from driving a motor vehicle while using an electronic wireless comm
unications
device to write, send, or read a text-based communication. “It takes effect January 1, 2009” The n
ew law, previously SB28,
compliments our existing law that took effect July 1, 2008 that requires drivers to use hands-free device
s while talking on the phone.
