Online Learning: Here to Stay
One of the most exciting new developments in ‘
higher education in the past few years has been the =
growth of online learning, especially MOOCs, massive
open online courses. Despite some of the disadvantages,
I believe that online classes are better than traditional
college classes for a number of reasons.
To begin with, they are free. College tuition rates
have been increasing for many years. As a result of @
these high rates, many people can’t afford a traditional
college education. Moreover, people all around the world can access MOOCs as long as they
have a computer and an Internet connection. Thus, the student body is much more diverse
than in a traditional classroom.
It is true that MOOCs provide fewer opportunities for direct contact with the professor.
On the other hand, you learn from experts from all over the world. It is also true that you
don’t meet with your classmates face to face; however, you can interact with them online.
Due to the exciting opportunities that MOOCs offer, I think that the traditional college
classroom will have a difficult time competing. Who wants to pay for a traditional] class when
you can be taught by the best in the world for free?
