Welcome Message by the President of IOMP
At the outset let me congratulate the organisers, in particular, the Chairpersons Dr. Chai-
th
Hong Yeong and Dr. Noriah Jamal for taking the responsibility to organize the 18 Asia-
th
Oceania Congress of Medical Physics (AOCMP 2018) in conjunction with the 16 South-
East Asia Congress of Medical Physics (SEACOMP 2018).
Our Asian colleagues need to feel proud that they were the first to start regular regional
conference in 2000, despite the fact that Europe had established EFOMP in 1980 and
started regional conference only recently in 2016. Thus, Asia has this distinction which
should be recognized. Well done Asia!
My heartiest congratulations to all leaders of AFOMP and SEAFOMP and above all my
predecessors in IOMP who showed foresight and vision. You can see the history of AFOMP
on its website.
“Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality”, Warren Bennis
While these conferences have generated good momentum in the region, led to several
degree program in medical physics in the Asian countries, it is time to think what can be
done next. I believe the conference will deliberate actions and also deliberate how the
momentum in research publications from the region can be enhanced. Awards for young
investigators boosts younger colleagues. Cooperation with other regions provides exciting
opportunities. Leadership development and mentorship are important.
I wish the deliberation great success.
Wishing all fruitful participation.
