sent to colleagues and friends can be very informal and close to
spoken English.
However, with both formal and informal e-mails, the
following rules should be obeyed:
a- The e-mail's message should always be kept concise.
b- A line before each new paragraph should be left.
c- Underlined words should be completely avoided.
d- Spelling, grammar, punctuation and capitalisation must be
precisely checked.
e- Any required documents should be attached to the e-mail.
An example of a formal business e-mail:
Dear Ms. Smith,
Thank you for your e-mail dated the 4th of October, 2021.
We are delighted to confirm the booking for you and your ten
guests. We have booked five double rooms for the 15th to 18th of
October, 2021 at the Blue Ocean Hotel in London – UK.
The room rates will be £500 per night.
An electronic copy of the hotel's brochure is attached.
We look forward to welcoming you.
