Bach Cello Suites, Ivychurch
Fes val highlights, as judged by JAM HQ, crossing many art forms, include new addi ons and span the
fes val from the first day to the last:
Ÿ A visual highlight was Susan Pilcher's rich, beau ful photography exhibi on of the Romney Marsh shot
at night, using very long exposures.
Ÿ On the first weekend, the London Mozart Players with Daniel Cook, conducted by Michael Bawtree gave
us an extraordinary concert featuring music for orchestra and organ, with Daniel playing organs from
France, Holland and England.
Ÿ The wonderful Changeling Theatre visited the fes val for the first me, bringing Shakespeare's Hamlet
to the golf links at Li lestone. Whilst the Northeast wind chilled the audience to the bone, the
performance was thrilling, bringing wit and humour to this tragic play.
Ÿ Working with the Marsh Primary Schools has always had a special place within the fes val, and the
preceding months. This year 175 children from 6 schools piled into the Marsh Academy Leisure Centre
to perform with Onyx Brass and Daniel Moulton. Individual schools performed one at a me before
coming together for a roof-li ing performance with Onyx of Timothy Jackson's 20-minute work Opening
Night.
Ÿ Another new addi on were our Come and Play sessions where anyone of any musical standard could
Come and Play with fes val Curator, Daniel Cook and Michael Bawtree, in a relaxed, coffee morning
environment. People who took part varied in age from around 8 to their late 60s. These sessions were a
huge success and will roll forward into future years.
Ÿ The last performance of 2017 was Michal Rogalski and Michael Poll performing That La n
Temperament, a concert of La n classics, arranged for oboe and guitar. This unique combina on
finished the fes val with a funky, warm, happy glow!
