JAM New Music

Onyx Brass, Music of Our Time concert, London

JAM started in 2000 specifically to enable new music in the UK. This remains very much at the core of our
work. We have commissioned and performed over eighty new pieces of music since we opened our doors.
Most of these works have had mul ple performances by JAM and other groups; many have been performed
across the globe, including in the US, Canada and as far afield as New Zealand.

Our annual March Music of Our Time concert held at St. Bride's Church, Fleet Street, was an excellent
example of this core ac vity. It featured two JAM commissions – one from 2007 by Adam Gorb and the
         other from last year by
         Thomas LaVoy – and six
         submissions. The Chapel
         Choir of Selwyn College,
         Cambridge, Onyx Brass and
         Simon Hogan (organ), under
         Michael Bawtree, enthralled
         a capacity audience.

         This concert showed off our
         commissioning programme,
and the way we revisit these
         commissions alongside less
         well-known composers
         perfectly. There is no doubt
         that these new composers
         will be involved in the
musical life of the UK for
                                       Michael Bawtree
         years to come.
