The Trinities
The trinities are known to be the pillars of Indian carnatic music. Their
exploration of ragas in their compositions even leave us mystified
today as to how elements of Bhakti and technicalities of a raaga could
be merged go hand in hand. They were contemporaries and hailed
from the same town called Tiruvarur in Tamil Nadu. They brought
about a period of revival in Carnatic music which has since been called
its golden period.
Sri Tyagaraja is the most celebrated Carnatic
music saint and an ardent devotee of Lord
Rama. He is said to have composed over
24,000 kritis. The Tyagaraja Aradhana
festival is celebrated in Tiruvarur (birth
place of St Tyagaraja) every year,as a tribute
to the great composer .
