Jesus, The Source of Grace
Importance of Repentance
A study of Scriptures shows us that at the three pivotal
stages of the gospel the message of repentance was clear:
i. The Introduction of Christ, The Messiah
John the Baptist, the forerunner who introduced Jesus
Christ, emphasized repentance at the beginning of his
ministry in Matthew 3:1-3.
“In those days John the Baptist came preaching in
the wilderness of Judea, and saying, “Repent, for
the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” For this is he
who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying:
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths
straight.”
John came to prepare the way of the Lord, the way into the
kingdom by preaching a message of repentance. He simply
showed that to enter the kingdom there must be
repentance.
ii. When the Messiah Started Ministry
Jesus Christ, the Messiah, started His public ministry in
Matthew 4:13-17 by emphasizing the same theme –
REPENTANCE.
