Humanism as a learning theory
Carl Rogers thought that it was important that learning
results in “a change in the organization of the self” (Illeris,
2018, p. 88). People are viewed as being eager to learn, and
that this learning results in changing of yourself. The role of
the teacher is therefore one facilitator, rather than of
transmitter of knowledge (Reis, 2014)

Learning Task
Create a mindmap that summarises the learning theories presented
in this chapter. (Chapter 5 will give you tips about great mindmap
tools you can use for this task.)
Resource
Youtube is not only great for watching once-off videos - you can also
subscribe to channels and receive notifications when new videos are
uploaded. On these channels, you will find playlists, which are
compilations of videos, much like your favourite music playlist.
Subscribe to Education Global Access Program (E-Gap) to see how
these learning theories are used in the learning environment.
