               Imperative Form – ‫ִצּוּוי‬

In English for the purpose of expressing verbs in their
imperative form, the core verb form is used.

For instance:

               To return Return!

Example: Return the book!

               To write Write!

Example: Write me an email, please.

Although there exists a specific imperative structure for the
verbs in Hebrew, a lot of times people in Israel just use verbs in
their future form for the purpose of expressing imperative
condition.

For a negative sentence using the imperative, please note that

the equivalent for the English “Don’t” is ‫ ַאל‬.

                  ‫ל ֹּא ַאל‬

Example:

                     Go there! – !‫ֵת ֵלְך ְלׁ ָּשם‬

               Don’t go there! – !‫ַאל ֵת ֵלְך ְלׁ ָּשם‬

In this study kit we will show examples of the imperative verb
form as we learn various respective verb groups.

We will provide an explanation for the specific imperative form
structure in our more advanced study kit.
