i. Lactone glycosides: Cantharide.
   j. Aldehyde glycosides: Vanilla pods.
   k. Miscellaneous glycosides: gentian, quassia, dioscorea.

5. According to the orientation of the anomeric carbon of the
   sugar molecule
Due to the cyclic structure of the sugar, two diastereoisomers of the
glycoside exist depending on the configuration of the anomeric
carbon of the sugar moeity. These diastereoisomers are called
anomers and are designated as α and β.

Thus, α-and β-glycosides depend on the configuration of carbon
connected to the aglycone. α-glycosidic bond (below) will produce
α-glycoside and β-glycosidic bond (above) will produce a β-
glycoside. This figure shows α-and β-glycosides using methyl-

glucoside as a simple example:

6. According to the therapeutic nature of glycoside
   Cardiac glycoside, such as digitalis
   Laxative glycoside, such as Senna
   Anti-ulcer glycoside, such as Liquorice
Bitter glycoside, such as Quassia wood
