AN ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATION GOVERNING SUPPLEMENTAL PAY PLANS
SUPERSEDING AR-13-6
Section 1: Educational Incentive Pay
A. Fire and Police
The City will compensate Sworn Fire and Police Officers, as well as officers is position# 40104
titled Community Service/Police Transition Officers for their job related formal education in the
following manner. (Job relatedness will be determined by the Chief and recommended to Human
Resources Director or designee.)
For each credit hour with a grade of"C" and above, the officer shall receive compensation:
a) At the rate of $1.67 in additional pay per month, up to a maximum of seventy-five (75) credit
hours, to a maximum of$125.00 or
b) At a maximum rate of$125.00 in additional pay per month for a two-year job-related
associates degr~e or
c) At a maximum' rate of $167.00 in additional pay per month for a four-year job-related degree
or
d) At a maximum rate of $209.00 in additional pay per month for ajob*related master's degree
An officer must have earned the credit or degree from an accredited college or university in order
to be eligible for educational incentive pay. It is the responsibility of the officer to furnish the
department head with sufficient documentation for proof of education completed. This
information will be forwarded to HR for approval and payroll purposes.
B. Mechanics
Educational incentive is offered to mechanics that have attained certification in various areas of
automotive mechanics through the National Institute for Automotive Services Excellence
(NIASE). For each certification the employee will receive fifteen dollars ($15.00) in additional
pay per month up to a maximum of six (6) certifications and ninety dollars ($90.00) per month. It
is the employee's responsibility to submit the certificates to the Department Head who shall
forward the certificates to Human Resources for approval and payroll purposes.
Section 2: Subsistence Pay
All Fire Department shift employees are entitled to thirty-five doJlars ($35.00) per pay period for
subsistence pay. Subsistence pay commences at the end of the basic training period.
