HIDDEN PROBLEMS
There was one problem facing me that did not seem to get
much better over time, even with the success of my team
capturing significant contracts from the DoD. All our
work was classified, we lived in “closed areas” and I
could not tell my immediate manager what I was doing,
nor did he seem interested. The result was that I was
passed over for promotions and one year even got a
substandard pay raise, even when all my performance
reviews exhibited “above expectations” ratings and I
acquired more US Government R&D money than any
other group in the Company. During a “what the hell is
