(FP-LOE) contract. The contract deliverable was a study
report and proposal for the next phase — all paper.
We worked closely with the folk at the McDonnell
Douglas Technology Incorporated in San Diego to go a
little beyond a pure study and build a “role model” of our
design to measure RADAR Cross Section (RCS) using
company funds. We also requested management to add
some additional company funds to the contracted effort to
let us get ahead of the game for the next, more
competitive, phase of the program. We wrote what I
considered a great proposal for the first phase, and had
already done enough of the study to start recommending
some specific system designs.
I had to go on a business trip the day before the proposal
was to be submitted to the customer, but I had reviewed
and approved the transmittal of the proposal. At the same
time, we acquired a new Vice President of Advanced
Programs – my new boss, G. Our LOT Christmas party
was that Sunday. When I showed up at the party my
reports looked like death warmed over, instead of being
ready to enjoy our 13 working day hiatus.
