travel as easy as possible in that travel policy dictated
“open” expense accounts and first-class air travel. My
personal problems were exacerbated suddenly by the
resignation of our technical services representative on the
west coast where the great majority of our aircraft
customers resided.
That empty position coupled with my aircraft industry
background made it easy for TIMET management to ask
me to transfer back out to California. They also agreed to
pick up all living expenses we incurred while living in
New Jersey, pay all moving expenses, living expenses in
California until we found a place to live permanently and
also provided a new car every year while in California.
The only problem I had to face was convincing my family
to move yet again, after years of moving while in service
and after. We moved.
My territory was from the Mexican border to Seattle in
the north, and from the Pacific coast to the western edge
of the Rocky Mountains. I was the only tech rep and
marketing guy in that territory. The office was also staffed
by a receptionist, two sales representatives, and two
secretaries, one of whom was mine. There was also some
warehouse personnel.
