Page 95 - MY STORY
P. 95
It’s probably a good thing that structures inspectors did
not measure the floor loading under our desks – it might
have been dangerous.
So, when the minions arrived to take photos of our
decrepit workspaces, we looked at the resultant postings
of photos on our bulletin board as a “badge of honor.”
Shame never entered our minds. It simply seemed like a
good time for a slightly extended lunch break. In some
cases, we delayed the submittal of our reports to
management and customers until this manager was on
travel or vacation. When we were assured he would not
be to work that day, the reports were suddenly released
for publication because of “immediate schedule
pressures.”
It always amazed me that so few managers recognized
that their wellbeing and success was so heavily dependent
on the people reporting to them. I’m not sure this
manager ever learned that lesson. I sure did as I grew in
the management ranks. Respect is an earned commodity,
not God-given.
