I thought if I started on my chores, I would forget about it.
However, it was the complete opposite! It started coming back to
my mind. It was like if you have a bug that keeps following you
wherever you go, and even when you try to swat at it, it will still
be in your face. So, my chores took me about twice as long, and
it didn’t help that I get distracted easily.
After I finished my chores, I came in to the house, and my
Pa was curious about the amount of time I had spent on my
chores today. “Good thing it’s not a school day!” he chuckled.
“Were you eager to find out about last night?” he continued.
“Yes!” I said anxiously.
Sometimes I can get really mad when your parents hang
things in front of your nose. Even when they don’t mean too,
they still do it. It really irritates me.
“Well, we do appreciate your being patient.” Ma replied
trying to calm me. “Yes, we do,” Pa agreed, “but Laura, how
would you like to go to the Dahlonega Gold Rush?” “Really?” I
said excitedly. Pa and Ma smiled and nodded. “Yay!” I danced
around.
“Why is Laura dancing?” Mary asked rather confused as
she came around the corner, but who could blame her, she didn’t
understand. “We’re going to the Gold Rush!” I said. She still
looked confused, but I still couldn’t help myself from dancing. I
was so happy. I figured Ma or Pa would explain it to her. My
dog Duke also started to jump on me. It was just awesome, I no
longer had to have the news hanging over my head. We were
going to the gold rush.
The next day, we loaded up the wagon with blankets, dried
meat, and some other food. My Pa figured we could find some
