said. “But Pa said we should probably sleep over there.” “Oh

okay,” she said picking up Mary and standing up.

When Pa came back, we moved to the field and got ready

for the night. When we woke up, we ate the food we brought
and were ready to find some gold.

We all walked to a cliff, and started to mine. Ma sat with

Mary for some of the time, and I took a little rest, but I was
hard at work for the majority of the time. And Pa didn’t even

               once take a small break.

It was hard, and the first three hours of work we didn’t find

anything. I was starting to think this maybe wasn’t the
opportunity I had thought, until I saw something shining from

the hot sun in the wall. I kept chipping, and even then Pa said

“Why are you pounding so quickly all of the sudden?” with a

little chuckle and a bit of a smile. “Oh Pa,” I said starting to
almost cry, “I found gold!” I shrieked aloud, holding a pretty

good size nugget in the air. “Oh Laura!” Ma and Pa gasped so

               joyfully. “Yay!” said Mary.
At that point we were all cheering and jumping up and

down. We were just so overjoyed. And Pa finished the job. We

gathered our pickaxes, shovels, and the gold we had found.
We went to the police officer, but this time it was someone

else. Pa asked how much money two ounces of gold was worth,

and of course the officer whispered to him a number. However,

I could not hear him, but I had an idea were going to be just
fine based off of Pa’s reaction.

Pa gasped like never before, and said to the officer “Thank

you so much.” “How much Charles?” my Ma asked. But Pa just

kept walking with us. “How much?” she said again. But still no
