Is the Child Safeguarding Refresher the same as the Safeguarding 1 online
virtual workshop?

No, they are not the same programme. The Safeguarding 1 virtual workshop is the
recognised Safeguarding 1 programme that coaches and others must attend in the first
instance to enable them to work with children. The Refresher is a programme that a person
normally undertakes after the 3-year period of recognition has expired (now extended to 5
years until further notice).

2020 has been an exceptionally challenging year and many of us thought that our girls may
not get the opportunity to train or play when the Covid- 19 measures were put in place at the
end of March. It is testament to our Fixtures Committee with the full support of our
Executive that we in Clare were able to run our competitions right up to the final stages.
Thank you to everyone on the committee for working so hard to cater for our girls.

Thank you to the Executive Committee for your support in promoting Child welfare and
Protection throughout the county.

Thanks also to the members of our Determining’s Committee Alma Keane, Bridie O’Looney
and Orla Considine for your assistance throughout the year.

I look forward to working with those of you who are staying on in your roles in 2021 and to
meeting any new officers. Together we will continue to ensure that we keep our young
players safe.
