Fixtures secretary’s Report to AGM 2020
The work of the fixtures committee started right after the AGM with putting the national
camogie and Ladies Football fixtures into the calendar, adding the Munster fixtures of both
codes and then slotting in the club fixtures, again aiming to avoid clashes of fixtures in the
same age group. As for many years now, we assign days of the week to camogie and other
days to Ladies Football.
Then we consider what went well the previous year, what the clubs have given us as
feedback and suggestions and where we can optimise each competition.
Finally, the fixture structure gets presented to the clubs at the county board meeting in
January and then finetuned for the fixtures Ratification meeting in February.
Up to this point it was a replication of the work done by the fixtures committee for the last
number of years. The fixtures schedules had been ratified, the clubs had started training
and the adult league and u14 championship was ready to start. However, 2020 was not like
every other year: the corona virus invaded Ireland and forced the government to lock down
the country to protect the people and prevent the hospitals from getting overwhelmed.

Beside training and games, the following planned activities got also cancelled:

• referee’s foundation course exam
th
On June 5 the guidelines for a safe return to play were issued. Club officers, mentors and
players had to complete on line training to learn how to train and play safely despite the
virus still present.
The fixtures committee prepared a new fixtures schedule for a shortened time frame and as
always in conjunction with LGFA fixtures.
