4. Figure Puzzles

Unit Overview

This unit deals with the concept of shape movement. Pattern blocks and
Tangrams are often used for studying shape movement.
When students use pattern blocks, dot boards, and other manipulatives to
complete or design figures, they must imagine the moved, rotated, or flipped
shapes. This is not simple for students who have not yet been able to develop
their spatial sense. Therefore, they must use actual blocks or paper for
understanding the movement around the shapes themselves.

The following 6 blocks are pattern blocks. A square cut into 7 pieces, as shown below, is called a Tangram.
