jOb ective Divide when the divisor is a two-digit number. (2)

1. Textbook Instructions

Students will learn how to divide a 2-digit
number by a 2-digit number and a 3-digit
number by a 2-digit number when there is a
remainder. Show the students how to divide
using 62 23 as a model.

Place the first digit
62>23 so there are enough tens. Place the
first digit in the tens place.
Estimate the quotient.
600 20 3. If the quotient is 3:
23 3 69, 69>62 so it cannot be divided
by 3.
Write 2 as the quotient.
Divide the ones.
Multiply. 23 2 46
Subtract. 62 46 16
Compare. 23 16
Remainder 16
Check the answer.
23 2 16 62, it checks.
