15Whose Equation Is Correct? Unit

Have the students divide problems whose
quotients are 2-digit numbers.

Place the first digit
32 41; Enough tens to divide.
So, place the first digit in the tens place.
Divide the tens
40 30 10. If the quotient is 1: 32 1 32.
1 can be the quotient.
Divide. 41 32
Multiply. 32 1 32
Subtract. 41 32 9
Compare. 9 32
Divide the ones.
Divide. 95 32
90 30 3. If the quotient is 3: 32 3 96.
96 is larger than 95, so the 3 does not work.
Use 2 as the quotient.
Multiply. 32 2 64
Subtract. 95 64 31
Compare. 31 32
Remainder 31
Check the answer.
32 12 31 415, it checks.

3. Have the students use the method shown
above to complete the division problems and
checks.
