6. From the left-hand line, unlay the remaining unknotted strand another

               10 or 12 inches for each half inch of the rope’s circumference and, in the
               groove it leaves, lay in its counterpart from the right. Where the two
               strands meet, tie another overhand knot and pull it tight.































               7. Make sure that all laid and re-laid strands have equal tension. Then
               return to the crotch and the first knot you tied. Take two snug tucks with

               each of its loose strands, working each one over, then under, then over
               and under again, the strand nearest to it in the standing part of the rope.
               Snip off the ends, leaving a quarter of an inch.
